Congratulations on the arrival of your new baby! The next few months are going to be exciting as you and your family bond with your new child.
If you have any questions make sure to call Providence St. Joseph Medical Center to speak with a provider about you or your child’s health.
There are a few basics to remember and inform friends and family about when handling an infant.
Before you or anyone else holds your baby they should wash their hands with antibacterial soap. Your baby has not built up a strong immune system, which makes them vulnerable to infection.
Always hold your newborn gently and support the neck and head. Your baby is not ready for rough play and should not be shaken, bounced on the knee or thrown in the air – instead lay your baby down and gently tickle their feet.
