Providence offers prenatal care and birth through certified nurse midwives (CNMs) – registered nurses who have specialized post-graduate education and midwifery training and certification. Our midwives offer care during your pregnancy, labor and birth, and throughout your postpartum period.

The midwives’ model of care is based on the belief that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes. They are nationally certified and licensed by the state.

The midwife model of care includes:

  • Monitoring the physical, psychological and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle
  • Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling and prenatal care, group education, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery and postpartum support
  • Minimizing technological interventions
  • Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention
