Bariatric Surgery

Learn More About Your Choices

There are many options when it comes to weight-loss surgery. To help you wade through the options and choose the one best for you, Providence Medical Group Bariatric Services offers free informational seminars. Seminars cover each option in-depth and provide an opportunity for you to ask questions directly to our surgeons and staff.

Seminars are offered once a month in the Conference Center on the First Floor of St. Patrick Hospital’s Broadway Building, 500 West Broadway, in Missoula. See our events calendar or call (406) 329-5866 for more information or to register.

Surgical Options

Providence Medical Group Bariatric Services offers a range of bariatric surgeries, all done laparoscopically, meaning the surgeon uses instruments and follows magnified images on monitors. Rather than one large incision, laparoscopic surgery is performed through several small incisions (usually 0.5-1.5 cm each).

Our Services

  • Weight Loss Surgery

Our experts can help you achieve a healthier and more active lifestyle. Our programs address both the physical and emotional components of weight loss and maintenance.
  • Gastric Bypass Surgery

The Roux en Y Gastric Bypass is the gold standard and most common weight-loss surgery. It promotes weight loss by restricting food intake and causing a minimal amount of malabsorption (disruption in the body’s ability to absorb fat and other food elements).
  • Gastric Sleeve Surgery

During gastric sleeve surgery, the surgeon removes about 85 percent of the stomach so it takes the shape of a tube or sleeve. The new, tube-shaped stomach is closed with staples.
  • Adjustable Gastric Banding

Gastric banding involves placing an adjustable band around the upper portion of the stomach. This restricts the amount of food the stomach can hold. The LAP-BAND® System is the only surgical weight-loss option that’s adjustable and reversible.
