The Roux en Y Gastric Bypass is the gold standard and most common weight-loss surgery. It promotes weight loss by restricting food intake and causing a minimal amount of malabsorption (disruption in the body’s ability to absorb fat and other food elements).
In this combined procedure, the surgeon uses staples to create a small stomach pouch. The rest of the stomach remains, but is stapled shut and divided from the new pouch.
