Missoula, MT—Providence Montana Health Foundation is partnering with the University of Montana Griz and Lady Griz basketball teams to host the 4th annual Team Up Montana basketball games at the University of Montana Adams Center on Thursday, January 21st and Thursday, February 4th. Unified by wearing PINK, the events promote awareness of cancer prevention and honors those who have been impacted by cancer. Proceeds provide financial resources to cancer patients in the western Montana region.

Executive Director Fran Albrecht, commented on the real impact of Team Up events: “Team Up Montana is like a huge community embrace for those who are going through cancer, and the funds raised ease the financial strain during a time when a patient’s life has been turned upside down and they’re unsure how to make ends meet. Team Up Montana is a beautiful gift that benefits friends and families right here in western Montana.”

Individuals and businesses throughout Missoula rally around the cause year round. Montana Rail Link (MRL) and Missoula Surgical Associates are among those who have stepped up to show their support, serving as the official Team Up Montana basketball game sponsors. MRL’s Chief Marketing and Information Officer Jim Lewis, spoke to the organization’s involvement: “Many of those who work for the Washington Companies and Montana Rail Link have been touched by cancer, whether by themselves or loved ones. The support Team Up Montana offers to cancer patients and their families is invaluable and deserving of the support of the Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation and Montana Rail Link.”

Other organizations backing the cause include Missoula Fresh Market. Co-owner Craig Holtet, and manager Rich Thornock presented Providence Montana Health Foundation with a check for over $11,000 last week, aware that customers will likely benefit from those funds. “Everyone knows someone who has struggled through cancer. We are happy to be part of Team Up as a Montana business.” Said Craig Holtet.

Game-goers are encouraged to wear pink and will have the opportunity to purchase Team Up Montana jerseys at the game, proceeds to benefit the Team Up campaign. Eric Hanson, manager of Missoula’s Universal Athletic, recently presented Providence Montana Health Foundation with a check for the 2015 jersey sales. Hanson has led the Team Up Montana apparel efforts since the campaign’s inception in 2009, including designing a new jersey each year.

Albrecht is looking forward to the upcoming events: “These basketball games are an extension of Team Up Montana that allow us to partner with organizations who understand just how important it is that our compassion reaches neighbors, friends and families right here in our community when they need it most.”
