In addition to basic science conducted at The University of Montana, The MNIF conducts clinical trials of neurosurgical devices and neurological diseases at St. Patrick Hospital.

Some examples of clinical trials that may be available at the MNIF are related to: chronic pain, back pain, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, diabetic neuropathies, post-shingles neuralgia, osteoarthritis pain, obesity and stroke prevention, migraine, spinal cord injury, brain tumor, depression and spinal devices.

The MNIF sponsors public education lectures, and hosts an annual national neurosurgery symposium.

What Do Clinical Trials Mean to You?

St. Patrick Hospital is a regional leader in innovative, cutting-edge treatments and clinical research in cancer, neurology and cardiology. Clinical trials allow for evaluation of new treatments. Patients can obtain new research treatments before they are widely available. Some research studies offer treatments that have the potential to extend life or improve life quality for patients who have exhausted their options with existing treatments. Most trials provide thorough physical evaluations and assessments that are generally free of charge to the patient. Research patients are followed closely by specialists during all phases of a study. Clinical trials are vital to the understanding and use of new treatments that, if approved by the FDA, could potentially provide widespread benefit to patients.
